Ringed Teal

$50.00

 Sold Out

UPDATED: October 22, 2024 - SOLD OUT UNTIL SPRING 2025

Summer 2024 Hatch - This listing is for single Ringed Teal duck (straight run) as they are too young to determine sexes at this time.

Pickup at our farm in Aspers, PA 17304.  We do not ship live birds at this time.

Our Ringed Teals are not pinioned and can fly, so they will need a pen with adequate space and a some clumping grasses for cover and nesting areas.  Netting (minimum 2") should be placed over the aviary to contain them and prevent overhead predator losses.   They are tree nesters and prefer elevated wood duck style nest boxes to nest in.  We use large rocks, stumps and even potted herbs and veggies (kale, swiss chard, etc) and move them around to stimulate them and give them variety.   They should have access to water (a small pond with fresh moving water, a kiddie style pool or similar).  The water should be fresh and if using a kiddie pool, complete water changes should be done frequently.

Ringed Teal should have a winter shelter and protection from the cold and wind.  They are a South American species of duck.  They like to perch on tree limbs and are one of the smallest species of ducks.  They are a great addition to a mixed aviary.

We feed our Ringed Teals a mixture of Kalmbach Duck & Goose pellets, Mazuri Waterfowl Maintenance (or Mazuri Waterfowl Breeder during breeding season) and Wild Bird Seed mix.   They enjoy freeze dried meal worms as a treat.

Please note:  We do our best to vent-sex the ducks or determine sexes by their vocal calls or dimorphism, however we can't guarantee 100% accuracy with this method.  You may choose to vent-sex yourself at the time of pickup.  Once the birds leave our farm, we make no warranties or guarantees on sexing.
