Mandarin Ducks - Unrelated Regular Male & Female Pair

UPDATED:  August 6, 2024  -  WE CURRENTLY ONLY HAVE MALE MANDARINS LEFT.  We have a female sitting on a clutch of eggs, so there is a small possibility of another late hatch yet this season and possibly more unrelated females and pairs will become available.

Spring 2024 Hatch - This listing is for a Mandarin juvenile male and unrelated female pair.  They are fully feathered and ready for pickup.  The males do not have their full coloring yet, but will be fully colored in the fall.   We had excellent hatch rates this year and have over 30 mandarins to choose from.

Mandarins nest in elevated nest boxes and can fly (they are NOT pinioned), so they will need a pen with adequate space and a wood duck nest style box.  Netting (minimum 2") should be placed over the aviary to contain them and prevent overhead predator losses.  Mandarins are a beautiful wild duck that is related to the wood duck.  They are very curious ducks and enjoy change ups in their aviaries.  We use large rocks, stumps and even potted herbs and veggies (kale, swiss chard, etc) and move them around to stimulate them and give them variety.   They should have access to water (a small pond with fresh moving water, a kiddie style pool or similar).  The water does not have to be very deep, but should be fresh and if using a kiddie pool, complete water changes should be done frequently.

We feed our Mandarins a mixture of Kalmbach Duck & Goose pellets, Mazuri Waterfowl Maintenance (or Mazuri Waterfowl Breeder during breeding season) and Wild Bird Seed mix.   They enjoy fresh greens:  Romaine, Kale, Swiss Chard, etc and they love herbs: Thyme, Oregano, Marjoram (a favorite) and Rosemary.
